Activision has officially revealed that the recently announced Return to Castle Wolfenstein add-on will go by the name of Enemy Territory.
After wading through Return to Castle Wolfenstein - at least, the single-player mode - we've all been hankering after more BJ action, so the news that crawled out of the E3 woodwork last week about an expansion being on the cards was very welcome indeed.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory will update the first-person shooter with new multiplayer maps, a new multiplayer class in the shape of the covert-ops specialist, a brand new single-player episode and finally, something that fans appear to have been crying out for for some time, full bot support in multiplayer.
There will be around 10 new multiplayer maps in total, some of which will be re-workings of levels from the original single-player game, and along with the new covert-ops class - a sneaky git who can disguise himself by stealing and donning enemy uniforms and carries a silenced Luger pistol and the Snooper rifle - alterations are apparently being made to existing classes as well. The engineer especially will be getting a substantial makeover, and will now come with a grenade launcher, land mines and the ability to build structures such as bridges, guard towers and machine gun nests.
Little is currently known about the new single-player episode, although it is expected to contain two or so missions that span roughly 10 levels, similar in number to the multiplayer map offerings. As for full bot support, it means that gamers will be able to play/practice all of Wolfenstein's multiplayer modes solo, thereby avoiding the annoying chit-chat and insult-hurling that always accompanies online gaming.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is expected by the end of the year.

Wolfenstein shots rescued from enemy territory
First ever screenshots of Enemy Territory, the upcoming add-on pack for PC shooter Return to Castle Wolfenstein Announced at E3, the Enemy Territory add-on for Wolfenstein is going to bring a whole load of updates to the original Gray Matter first-person shooter. More single-player, more multiplayer; plenty in fact to shake your stick at. The first ever screenshots were released today.
Multiplayer additions will come in the shape of around 10 new maps - some original and some re-workings of levels from the original single-player game - full bot support and the introduction of the new Covert-Ops class. Alterations and tweaks will also be made to existing classes, which means that you'll be able to employ a number of new tactics and strategies when playing online or over a LAN.
Still shrouded in a bit of mystery, the single-player episode to be included in Enemy Territory will apparently consist of one to two missions made up of 10 different levels. Will BJ be the one pumping Nazis full of lead again? We hope so.
The add-on screenshots don't exactly set the world alight, but if you're a fan of the original then they'll no doubt have you skipping around the room anyway. Hooray.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is due out at the end of the year.

Wolfenstein enters Enemy Territory
Activision shows new screens of the upcoming extension to its Nazi-blasting FPS: get you Luger out and shoot your way in here
Latest screens of Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory should be enough to keep fans of the remade id shooter more than happy. As well as the good looks now associated with the Gray Matter update you'll get plenty of lovely new Nazi-killing features, including co-op play.
Seen in the screens in an engineer laying a landmine in an Egyptian village, a covert ops bloke taking aim in the same homestead and another engineer preparing to destroy a mechanism of some sort in the North African locale.
Plenty of new stuff will be included in Enemy Territory. The new coverts ops class for multiplayer lets you steal enemy uniforms and perform reconnaissance. A full campaign mode for multiplayer has also made the cut.

Hot shots and all the undead Nazi death you could wish for.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory showed new screens of both the multiplayer and singleplayers sides of the add-on today, no doubt fuelling the Nazi-bashing fires deep in the guts of the PC massive.
As you can see, the graphical splendour of Gray Matter's original update hasn't suffered any for being handed over to Mad Doc and Splash. In terms of plot, the pack follows on from events in Return to Castle Wolfenstein, seeing trigger happy American B.J. Blazkowicz thrown into occupied France to rescue agent number two, a sultry lady-person with a penchant for danger. Foxy.
Singleplayer is squad-based this time round with a field ops, an engineer, a medic, a soldier and a covert operative all traipsing around the countryside shooting Germans and being rough and, dare we say it, tough.
Multiplayer features campaigns in such exotic locales as North Africa, with players getting visible ranks on their uniforms as they gather experience. Cool.

The Splash Damage/Mad Doc Software team-based shooter is looking absolutely corking, and we've the screens to prove it
Hopefully having excited you with yesterday's Enemy Territory hands-on report, today we're happy to bring you fresh new screenshots straight from the multiplayer battlefield. Visions of the portable mortar, the Command Map and more are all here for your perusal.
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is shaping up to be a real corker, and we've been utterly impressed by what we've experienced of the multiplayer side of the game. Of course, there'll also be a singleplayer mode that'll see you reprise the role of B.J. Blazkowicz, taking the fight to the Nazis with AI-controlled comrades. And you'll be able to play the singleplayer part of the game in co-op mode. Cool.

Enemy Territory multiplayer coming for free!
Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory gets cancelled as a retail product; but there's a silver lining in them there dark clouds
Eyes are wide in shock today following Activision and id Software's revelation that Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory has been canned as a retail product. The cancellation decision revolves around issues with the singleplayer side of the title; but the good news is that the multiplayer portion will be released as a free, downloadable expansion for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Cool!
Activision is currently refusing to elaborate on the problems surrounding the singleplayer side of Enemy Territory. However, the publisher and id Software have released an official statement, which, while not revealing an awful lot, is interesting to read nevertheless. So here it is:
"id Software and Activision announced today they are cancelling the retail release of Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. Despite a strong effort from talented developers, the singleplayer portion of the game did not progress as anticipated. Cancelling the release was a difficult decision made in the best interest of the Wolfenstein franchise and fans.
However, we remain excited about the progress and direction of Enemy Territory multiplayer. Over the next several months the focus of our development will be to complete the multiplayer portion of Enemy Territory and provide it as a free downloadable expansion to Return to Castle Wolfenstein."
While news of the death of Enemy Territory singleplayer might come as a blow, the plans to release of the multiplayer portion as a free download should definitely have you excited. Why? Well, we got to try out Enemy Territory multiplayer toward the end of last year and it left us most impressed. You can read about our experiences with it here.
Unfortunately, "Over the next several months" suggests that we're not going to see Enemy Territory multiplayer for some time. Still, we reckon it'll be well worth the wait.

Enemy Territory public test soon
Get hands-on with the free Wolfenstein multiplayer title within the week, thanks to a test map release
Activision has announced that gamers will soon be able to put stand-alone, World War II-based multiplayer title Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory through its paces. The opportunity will come via a test map, which is due for release to the public within the week.
The Enemy Territory test map to be made available is called Fuel Dump, and forms part of the Europe-based campaign that will feature in the free, stand-alone game. A huge, winter-landscape level with snow-blanketed and forest terrain, Fuel Dump sees Allied and Axis forces ultimately battling over, a, wait for it... fuel dump. Ta-daaaaaa!
"Within a week" is the closest release date we've got for the Enemy Territory test map, so it's a case of keeping both eyes peeled. All things running smoothly, we should expect the full, free multiplayer game to be made available not long after.
For more information on Enemy Territory, take a look at our hands-on report and recent interview with developer Splash Damage.

Enemy Territory map test released
It's fight, fight, fight as Allied and Axis forces battle it out over a fuel dump
As mentioned last week, Activision has now released the public map test for the standalone, Wolfenstein multiplayer title Enemy Territory. Slightly tipping over 100Mb, the test features one map, Fuel Dump, that will be present in the game's European campaign; the other campaign's set in North Africa.
Enemy Territory, which has been developed by UK-based Splash Damage, introduces a ton of new additions to the Wolfenstein multiplayer experience. New weapons, new maps, obviously, the inclusion of an RPG-style levelling-up system and a heap of other gameplay features have been incorporated.
No news on a release date for the full product yet, but you can get a taster by downloading the map test from our download section. While it's coming down the pipe, have a read of our exclusive Enemy Territory interview with Splash Damage for more info on the game.
